Jack Gibb – aka Jacques LeBear
Jack was our gentle giant.
We fondly remember Jack, a cherished and long serving member of the Cowichan ATV Club. With expertise in GPS, IT, and civil engineering, he was a problem-solving guru who impacted many through his online teaching and mapmaking.
Jack’s impressive legacy, spanning a decade of managing the club’s IT, and mapping club rides will forever be treasured.
His battle against cancer showcased his bravery, inspiring all. Jack’s passion for the outdoors and ATVing motivated his family and our club members to embrace nature. He was a compassionate friend to all, and his memory will live on in our club.
Rest peacefully, dear friend.
Warm memories from Ian and Denise Brethour:
It is no surprise that Jack was well thought of as a mentor for GPS “newbies.” He was very generous with sharing his technical knowledge whether it was involving the use of Base Camp software; providing GPS tracks for an event; or helping someone with their particular GPS. I can recall a GPS ride that Jack set up about ten years ago the day before the ride was to take place. I was not particularly proficient in using the GPS to locate waypoints, etc. On that ride, however, a local resident had taken down some of the ride markers that Jack had previously set up. Although a lot of individuals were going back to the starting point because they couldn’t find the markers, I happened to turn up a trail because I thought I must have just taken a wrong turn somewhere. As I progressed down the trail, the markers started to appear again. To my surprise, my wife Denise and I won that year!
Jack was very proficient and helpful when it came to anything computer based. As always, Jack was so easy to work with.
Jack will be missed but very much remembered.
Kind Thoughts from Jim Bolin
I did not know Jack as well as some of the club members. Nevertheless, Jack was incredibly supportive and always willing to share his vast knowledge of anything GPS related.
